● New pedestrian and cycling bridge over the Rideau River now open.

A new pedestrian and cycling bridge over the Rideau River which connects Donald Street and Somerset Street East officially opened on December 4, 2015, six months ahead of schedule.

The new bridge will be a handy link between Overbrook /Vanier and Sandy Hill, and it will provide cyclists with a much welcomed alternative to the Cummings Bridge. Many cyclists felt unsafe using the extremely busy Cummings Bridge.

The new bridge will be called the “Adawe crossing”. The name Adawe is an Algonquin term meaning “to trade”, and is meant to be symbolic of the history of the Rideau River and the indigenous heritage of the area .
