● Before booking with Air Canada, consider the baggage fee for travelling with a bicycle.

Maybe you’re flying south this winter, or perhaps you’re planning a trip next summer. If you’re going to be travelling with your bicycle, think twice about booking with Air Canada.

The Bicycle Magazine website has an interesting story about how Air Canada charged a whopping $577 to check in a bicycle as baggage on a one-way flight from Europe to Canada. This isn’t the only time Air Canada charged such a exorbitant fee. Apparently, a few weeks earlier another person had to pay close to $500 on a flight from Toronto to Texas.

When flying to Europe with my bicycle, I have had good luck with Air Transat’s baggage policy. In addition to one piece of regular luggage, Air Transat charges $30 (each way) for checking in a bicycle as baggage.

  1. air canada is a sht hole company…

my girlfriend’s mom has been booking a trip to brazil now for the last 6 months for a 1 month visit. Anyhow, yesterday air canada over booked a toronto flight so her mom (70 years old) got bumped off the flight because they over booked. So, she missed her connection flight from TO to Brazil. Now, she has to re-book everythinng… aircanada gave he a mizzly 200 dollar credit. Yet, all the flights to Brazil are jam packed booked because of reading week at universities. She now is cancelling the whole trip which is going to cost her time and money.. Some older person shouldn’t have to through this mess because some university students want to go party down south… shameful fn system it is… money talks I guess. Debt nation… seniors walk… not looking forward to getting old in this country. Its quickly becoming just a money making machine without much ethics nor morals…

  2. lots of rip off artists in today’s society, everyone out to make the almighty buck… everything is getting expensive in canada from housing, to utilities, to food, to taxes, etc…

the airline industry will scrw yah big time. Thus, best to buy a bike at your destination then donate it… Westjet used to be pretty good, they would just charge you one way typically. The american airlines will gouge yah big time.

on a side note though, even the cop shop and justice dept is out to make a buck now a days… I have a buddy that got stopped for a dirty plate fine some years back, guess he forgot about the fine and got stopped recently while going to his dad’s funeral… He just found out about the ticket that day as he didn’t receive a notice of suspension in ontario (he lives in another province). He paid the fine that day only to find out he has to pay another reinstatement fee of 200 dollars in ontario. Then he has to attend a court date because he was caught driving while suspended, yet he never got a notice for it… he rarely drives in ontario… that may cost another 1-5k plus jail time for a dirty license plate ticket…
thus, everyone is out to make an almighty buck now a days…
its getting very costly to live in canada now, gone is the good old days where yah could have a decent talk with someone without the thought of money on one’s mind… we’re merely a money making machine now. Shame really, for we are ruining a once good country for the sake of greed and a quick buck… when it comes to the almighty buck control/power settles in then corruption.
