Grand Prix Cycliste Gatineau international race this weekend (May 19 to 21)
"Grand Prix Cycliste Gatineau" will be taking place over the long weekend from May 19 to 21, and it will feature some of the top women cyclists in the world, including Canada's Clara Hughes and Olympic Champion Nicole Cooke.
The Chrono Gatineau Time Trial race will take place Saturday from 8:45 am to 2 pm. In a Time Trial individual riders are sent off one at a time at one-minute intervals, and they race against the clock for the best time.
The Grand Prix Cycliste Gatineau road race will take place on Monday morning from 9 :30 am to 12. This is a mass start race where the women will complete 13 laps on a 10 kilometre course. (The photo is from last year's road race.)
The start and end of the race courses will be on the Boulevard des Allumettières, which cuts through the lower part of Gatineau Park (see the link below for a map of the course).
Like most bicycle road races, the Grand Prix Cycliste Gatineau is free for spectators. Just show up somewhere along the race route and watch the action. There will be more spectators at the start/finish line and near the top of any hills (the hills slow the race down and people are able to get a better look at the competitors).
Note that in addition to the elite women races, the Grand Prix Cycliste Gatineau will include a number other activities and competitions that will be taking place throughout the long weekend
