This is something that could be useful in Ottawa. It’s a bicycle designed to clear bike lanes and paths of snow and ice. It was invented in England where it’s called a gritter bicycle.
It can carry 50kg of salt to deal with icy surfaces, which would definitely be an asset in the Ottawa area. The bicycle can also be fitted with a snow plow that’s good for up to two inches of snow. Okay, a limit of two inches of snow isn’t going to cut it in Ottawa, especially this year. But the gritter bicycle is still a worthwhile idea and it would be effective for salting the bike paths and lanes in our region. In Europe, it’s already caught the attention of people responsible for snow and ice removal.
