● No link between bicycle helmet laws and reductions in head injuries.
A major new Canadian study has found that mandatory helmet laws do not translate into fewer head injuries.
The study, which was recently published in BMJ Open (British Medical Journal), was conducted by researchers at the University of Toronto and the University of British Columbia. Basically, they found that helmet laws didn’t change the hospitalization rates for head injuries.
Apparently, the researchers were so surprised by the results of the study that they re-ran their numbers to check for human error.
