● NCC Sunday Bikedays starts this weekend (May 15, 2016).

The NCC Sunday Bikedays starts this Sunday (May 15, 2016), and features over 50 kilometres of car-free parkways on Sunday mornings in Ottawa and the Gatineau Park.

This event is now known as “NOKIA Sunday Bikedays“, and takes place almost every Sunday morning throughout the summer until Labour Day weekend. In Ottawa, the parkways are closed to motorized vehicles from 9 am to 1 pm, and most of the parkways in the Gatineau Park are closed to motorized vehicles from 6 am to 11 am. Click here for a map of the Sunday Bikedays network.

The only catch is that Sunday Bikedays is cancelled on Sunday, May 29, 2016, on the parkways on the Ottawa side of the river for the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend (this includes the Colonel By Drive, Sir John A. Macdonald, and Sir George-Étienne Cartier Parkways).

Also note that the NCC is looking for volunteers who are available at least two or three Sundays to help out with traffic intersection monitoring and bike patrolling. If you’re interested, check out the NCC Volunteer Centre or call 613-239-5373.
